BEHIND THE SCENES

With so much going on at BoxNine7 HQ, it has been a hot minute since we last caught up with one of our team members.

Say hello to Jenny! She may be our newest addition to the design team, but she certainly isn’t new to the property world. Jenny has brought over a decade of knowledge to the team after working as a residential chartered surveyor for a global agent. Working alongside our sales team generating new business and producing some beautiful schemes; we caught up to see what Jenny has been up to plus hot interior tips and inspiration.

Hi Jenny! What does a typical day look like for you?

“First stop - coffee! Then I’m usually out and about all around London on site visits. You can find me measuring up apartments and houses for clients for home staging or interior design jobs, or on site with our Logistics team overseeing installations and styling our projects.

When I’m not on site, I’m researching for design briefs and putting scheme proposals together for private clients, developers and agents, as they’re all tailored to individual requirements or particular target demographics I also carry out the procurement for my projects, sourcing and purchasing the furniture, art and accessories and picking upholstery fabrics and wall decoration.”

How did you get into the industry?

“I’ve always had a love for property. I studied Real Estate Management and went on to do a Masters degree in Urban Regeneration. Following on from that, I had a 9-year career in top London property firms as a Residential Chartered Surveyor but I missed using my more creative side.

I applied for an interior design scholarship at the Inchbald School of Design and winning this gave me a big push to do the scary, but incredibly rewarding change of career.

After completing my Interior Design Diploma at Inchbald I was taken on by BoxNine7 as an Interior Designer and I’ve never looked back since!”

What inspires you?

“I like to look to nature and the seasons for my design inspiration. There are such fantastic colour combinations in everything natural we see around us, from sea blues against warm sands to the fiery reds and earthy browns of rich autumn leaves. Nature features in interior trends each year and we’re attracted to and happier around the elements of nature.

With the amount of time we’re all spending at home now, it’s becoming more important than ever to bring those elements into our interiors. Especially this year, sustainability has certainly had an influence on this year’s trends, with earthy tones and raw materials being used throughout, creating a calm environment within your home. We often share our inspirations over on our Instagram, it’s definitely worth checking out!”

What is the most challenging thing about your role?

It was daunting at first, starting from the bottom and working my way up in a new industry after 9 years of building my previous career. Having said that, BoxNine7 is the most fantastic company to work for and to learn from. I get all the support I need and the freedom to design and it’s the best place to build my future.

Jenny’s top interior styling tips…

Start With the Basics.

You don’t always have to buy everything at once. It’s nice to build a collection of things that you love and find over time. Your home should be a reflection of you and your personality. Find key pieces you love and build around them.

Keep It Simple.

There’s no need for over styling or cluttering and it helps when it comes to keeping your house clean! Our Twickenham Gateway project is a perfect example of a minimal but effective design. With the designers also opting for a lighter wood, soft hues and neutral fabrics were used throughout to create a ‘Scandinavian’ finish to the scheme. Bring The Outside In.

Gorgeous fresh or dried flowers and greenery really help to soften a space. Earlier in the year prior to the national lockdown, our Buying and Procurement team visited various interior shows such as; Maison & Objet Paris and IMM Cologne, scouting the hottest trends of the year. Dried flowers came out on top amongst other great trends, you can read our furniture fair round-up here.
