Dear BoxNine7, I've been struggling with a small bedroom space for years. What are some creative ways to create the illusion of more space?

Dear Georgie,

One of the key tricks to create a bigger illusion is to think vertically. Look for opportunities to utilise wall space by adding shelves, hooks, or wall-mounted cabinets. This not only frees up floor space but also adds visual interest to your walls.

Using furniture with legs or open bases can also give a sense of openness and make a space feel larger. Furniture with exposed legs allows light to flow underneath, creating an airy and open feel. Additionally, opting for furniture with a lighter colour palette can also help to create a sense of spaciousness.

We faced this exact challenge when designing our project, The Hexagon apartments. Working with the interesting and challenging shapes of the apartment, we brought the show unit to life with unique furnishings such as the blue cord sofa and diverse accessories used throughout. No corner was left untouched with every room telling a different story. With enough space to entertain guests, locally sourced finishing touches were added in the bathrooms and bedrooms playing homage to the surrounding areas, creating a space welcoming for any lucky working professional.

I hope these creative solutions and space-saving tips inspire you to make the most of your space and create a more organised and visually appealing home. Remember, with a little creativity and strategic planning, you can transform your small space into a functional and stylish oasis.

Dear BoxNine7, I’m feeling overwhelmed with all the interior design trends out there. How can I stay true to my personal style without getting caught up in the latest fads?

Dear Emily,

We completely understand how overwhelming it can be with the multitude of interior design trends constantly emerging. The good news is that you can stay true to your personal style while navigating through the ever-changing world of design trends.

A few tips include, prioritise timeless elements. Rather than chasing after every passing trend, focus on incorporating timeless elements into your home. Classic design elements such as well-crafted furniture, quality materials, and neutral colour palettes never go out of style and can serve as a solid foundation for your personal style. As well as, mixing and matching. Don't be afraid to mix and match different styles and elements to create a unique and personalised look. Experiment with combining different textures, patterns, and colours to create a design that reflects your personality and style. This allows you to create a space that feels authentic to you, even if it incorporates some trendy elements.

Still feeling overwhelmed? We can make it easy. Our curated furniture packages provide landlords, developers and investors with a design-led turnkey furnishing solution. Although The Hume might be my favourite, the Turner, Hamilton, and Parker collections all feature different looks and styles, so there is something to suit everyone’s taste and property. Exclusive to our website, step inside the collection themselves and envision how our turnkey furnishings can work within your space with our virtual tours on each furniture collection portfolio page.

Dear BoxNine7, I want to create a cosy and inviting atmosphere in my home, but I don't know where to start. What are some key elements that can help me achieve this?

Dear Sasha,

Creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere in your home is all about infusing warmth, comfort, and personal touches into your space.

Embrace Warm and Rich Colours. When it comes to creating a cosy atmosphere, the right choice of colours can make a big difference. Consider using warm and rich colours such as deep browns, soft oranges, warm reds, and earthy tones. Add Poppy Art. Bold and vibrant art pieces can instantly inject life and energy into a space, making it feel more inviting. Consider incorporating poppy art with vibrant colours and bold patterns to create a focal point in your room, this can add a sense of playfulness and personality to your space, making it feel more welcoming and inviting.

We used this approach in our Covent Garden based project, Chapter House. Our incredible team of dedicated designers were briefed to design two additional apartments with vibrant personalities. The first apartment from our Chapter House project is the larger of the two, embodying a sense of artistic wow-factor. One of the key design elements is the deep, burgundy shade that is used within the study area. The second apartment is a studio space with a dramatic and powerful scheme, which was initially inspired by the bold headboard and abstract piece of artwork above the console. The dark and daring bedroom within this studio unit draws you in, with the deep blues, purples and oranges working together to make a contrasting yet harmonic space.
